Harmonious is a composition created for the clarinet choir at Northern Arizona University. It aims to showcase how various music styles, including aggression, beauty, and groove, can coexist in harmony.
The piece begins with a forceful and solemn soundscape which depicts a glass-like and uncomfortable feeling of the music. With an outburst of sections in a major mode, the solemn section transitions into a beautiful middle section meant to show the true colors of each voice of the clarinet family. Through the exploration of different modes, keys, and styles, Harmonious concludes with an exhilarating tutti section that concludes with polyrhythms, chromatics, and fast 16th note lines.
