Freilach No. 1 - for concert band

$95.00

Klezmer (Yiddish: כליזמר or קלעזמער) is a musical tradition of the Ashkenazi Jews of Eastern Europe. It is the embodiment of dance, anguish, and celebration. Klezmer is currently experiencing a global resurgence as both Jewish and non-Jewish individuals contribute to the revival of the vibrant musical culture.

Freilach No. 1 is a traditional klezmer song that every klezmer around the world knows. “Freilach No. 1” is a traditional Klezmer dance song. Over time, it became commonly referred to as "Sher" (share) or "Sherele," (share- a-lay) which roughly translates to "shears” because the dance performed by couples imitates the motion of shears.

This arrangement was commissioned by the Sitka Fine Arts Camp (SFAC) in Sitka, Alaska. Dr. Stephen Meyer, the current director of bands and assistant professor of music at Northern Arizona University, is the director of the Symphonic Band at the SFAC High School Camp.
